Which is better? a masters degree in theater or acting school or get experience first? Im a BFA Theater senior

I'm a graduating theater arts major, and I'm moving to NYC after graduating, so I'm wondering which is the best move to make- acting school, a masters degree, or try to get work experience first. thanks.

The right choice would depend on your ultimate ambitions-

If you want to be an actor- Then acting school, and vocal coaching, would not only improve your skills, and in effect your chances, but also improve your contact base with your peers and other pro's (your instructors). You can also pursue work experience while attending class.

If you want to be a teacher- Then you should pursue an MFA to increase your marketability to the educational institutions.

Work experience is also a way to go if you want to work in the industry, and if you are lacking funds for additional training, however in addition to education extra training puts you in contact with people who are pursuing the same thing you are and may be able to help you in the long run.

The theater business is very small and it is better to be more qualified for your first job than not qualified enough and get a reputation you can't shake.

As any regular job, you have to be able to DO it. What finally counts is the "what you do with what you know." If you cannot get things done (perspirate), the theory will only support you but not get you on the stage. It is always great to know the fundamentals of what your are doing, so keep going!

While hardly necessary to WORK; having a Masters or even a BFA, ANY education is a good thing. Certainly as already suggested, WORKING in the craft is what you'll have to do, and if possible, manage both, the work and the continuation of your schooling.

   The degrees might not land you any Major work, initially, but in having the degrees, you can do many things beyond JUST acting.
