Well, I'm old enough to remember Rossi during the early 80s and what he accomplished that day against Brazil is something I don't think I will ever see again.

Rossi had been banned for two years before that World Cup and had only just been reinstated in late-April '82. I think he only played three matches for Juventus when Bearzot selected him for the Azzurri. Not only did he select him, but he put him into the starting XI, which infurated the Italian press. The situation became worse as Italy struggled in the first round and Rossi did virtually nothing in those games. Even against Argentina Rossi squandered an easy one-on-one chance although it led to the opening goal.

But for whatever reason the football gods were on Rossi's side against Brazil as he seemed to always be in the right place at the right time. His good fortune continued against Poland and West Germany and against all odds the Bambino d’Oro led his country to World Cup glory.

As for Zidane, it sounds like you're not much of a fan of his if you suggest that the referees helped him in '98. Don't forget that he was sent off against Saudi Arabia and thus missed two matches from that tournament. Apart from that he had a very good tournament, capped by those two goals against Brazil and his career as a whole dwarfs what Rossi was able to accomplish after his Cinderella World Cup of '82.

But as far as the better drama, Rossi 1982 tops the list.

Ronaldo's comeback in 2002 after two horrific knee injuries nearly ended his career ranks very high on the list of drama as well.
