Which is better . . condo? townhome? or house?

Depending on the type of person you are, it varies. If you are more of the beach type of person or live by yourself or not with too many people, you might want a condo. If you like more of the city kind of place and have a little more money to spend, you might like a townhome. And if you have a family or like that homey feeling, you might want a house. It all depends on what fits you.

condo's are good if you have no kids. The up keep is simple, as the association does most of it and all you do is pay a few hundred a month, but if you have kids they can regulate what you have in your back yard usually no swing sets,the do not allow fences, you can be fined for leaving toys in the yard, etc.  They also decide what color your house is and some require the associations approval before you sell or change your home in any way that is visiable from the out side

A house is your premium purchase with all other factors , i.e size, age, condition and location, being equal.

There once was a a wise investor/teacher who asked his students the difference between syphilis, gonorrhea and a condo/town home.

When no one could come up with the answer the teacher said, you can always get rid of syphilis and gonorrhea...

Of course this was in times of a much stronger real estate market... Presently, you cannot sell a home. condo or town home. If you are fortunate to be in a position to buy you will be best served by purchasing a home.

Most people will say 'house' because of resale value.

Condos are nice for people who don't want to put up with exterior maintenance, and sometimes interior maintenance.

Townhouses are nice because they are usually less expensive than detatched houses, and usually don't have the high HOA fees associated with condos.
