We switched from DirecTv to Dish because when Directv came out with their HD DVR there were so many problems and complaints about the DVR and our scheduled set-up was delayed until they finally said " 'don't call us, we'll call you' when we're ready." Dish set us up within days and the DVR is great. (We switched from Tivo). There are things we miss about Tivo but nothing that made us regret leaving it. We are satellite customers and Tivo was in bed with cable and so their HD box cut the rest of us out of the picture.We love Dish and they add more HD stations all the time. No regrets here. (we had much better luck with customer service with Dish also) But, in any case, they're both better more responsive to customers than Comcast. Plus even living in Michigan we've only had snow cause a problem twice in about 7-8 years. Cable was out constantly it seemed.

I like DIsh and their HD DVR is very nice and it is easy to use. Sure directv says they have more HD channels. Last time I looked though Dish actually had 39 available HD channels and Directv had only 23. SO if they have more, how long will it last? Well, less than a year. Dish is launching 2 more satellites this year so they will have over 100hd channels to choose from. Sooner or later it will all be the same. Maybe then the prices will come down because that is all that there will be to fight over.

But anyway...

I like Dish and the reason I switched over from Directv was the HD-DVR from Dish was being offered for free at the time. That may have changed by now. But I have DISH now and I'll have it for 15 more months for sure. I will compare the 2 again, then.  

WHo has more satisfied customers? I'll bet it is a pretty even match. Directv may have more customers because they have been around the longest. But that does not mean they have the most satisfied customers.

We have had both.  I liked Dish while we had it, it had a few more options on the remote.  The DirectTV is coming out with a lot of the same options now, though.
