Each has advantages and disadvantages. It';s a bit like plasma vs LCD TVs.

DLP is generally accepted as having better blacks and a bit better picture, but is prone to generating headaches in the minority of people susceptible to "rainbow effect" (the spinning colour wheel is the problem .. but the issue goes away once the speed reaches 5x or faster). DLP projectors -- although it's not directly related to the DLP basis -- relative to LCD projectors tend to have lower zoom range lenses and to not have offset capability ... amking mounting more picky. But they are also a bit less expensive than LCD for the same resolution and picture quality.

LCD projectors aren't prone to rainbow effect, but do exhibit "screen door effect" because the interpixel space is a bit larger than on DLP models. This is like looking through a screen door ... hence the name. It ceases to be an issue once you sit more than about 2x screen width away.

So which is better re:

Blacks / contrast: DLP

Zoom range: LCD

Cost: DLP

Mounting flexibility: LCD

Screen door effect: DLP

Rainbow Effect: LCD

That all said, the two formats have got closer in recent years, so you can get great pictures form either. But you still need to research them carefully before buying.
