I'm looking to pickup a 32" LCD TV and am having a hard time deciding on whether or not I should go with a 720p or 1080p. I am an avid gamer and own the Wii, 360 and PS3 but am not sure at that TV size which is going to be the best for this. I was considering a 42" but in that case I know 1080p would be best, but at 32" is it just as good to go with 720p? What is the major difference between that and 1080p and will I be able to see that difference?

  1. 1080 is high definition and 720 is enhanced definition (some call it high def but it's not really. You can really see the difference with a HD signal. the only advantage to 720p is that fast moving objects are a little sharper than 1080I but 1080P is superior. for games get the fastest refresh rate you can with the highest contrast rate (the higher the better)

Mathew B Your actually wrong and Im right sorry

  2. 1080p tv it look beter with a ps3

  3. For gaming  or regular TV viewing you will find that at normal viewing distances it would be difficult to see the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 32 inch screen.   Most games do not have the detail present in the picture provided by a good quality high definition signal available from cable or satellite.  They present more like a high quality cartoon.  As you go up in screen size say to a 40 inch set,  then you will begin to see a difference.  The larger the screen the more noticeable the difference between 720p and 1080p.  You may have already noticed that 720p is much more common on 32 inch and smaller sets for the very reason I mentioned above.  You start seeing 1080p available on sets 37 inches and larger.

  4. Leonard S, man is your answer wrong.  HDTV is anything above 720p infact 1080i could also be called 540p where 1080 is interlaced while the 540p is progresive, same thing.

Enhanced TV is anything below 720p (480i or 480p) before giving answers you really should do your research.  Heck some broadcasts are in 720p and they are HD while some choose 1080i.  (Hint 720p is better for sports and fast action in HD)

To the OP. Anything below 55" and the human eye cannot distinguish between 720p and 1080p unless you are sitting three inches from the screen, but with a 32" you could go either way.
