Does monounsaturated mean that the fatty acid has only one saturated bond(hydrogen) the others being unsaturated or, does it mean that the chain has only one unsaturated hydrogen bond ?

  1. I don't really know but I do know that Monounsaturated fat is also liquid at room temperature and that Olives contain it and that there are many mediterraneans who live past 100 whose diet include a daily dose of olives and olive oil and nuts, all of which contain high doses of monounsaturated fats.

So the answerer saying this fat is bad is wrong.

The issue is betw unsaturated and saturated fats.

You want unsaturated  fats which include both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.

You don't want Saturated fats for the reason expressed by the other answerer..

  2. polyunsaturated ones are better as they remain liquid at 36 degree which is our body temp hence do not settle as silt in the blood vessels and cause blockage
