  1. Propane is much more convenient than white gas.  You don't have to pump up the tank to pressurize it.  No mess when re-fueling.  Safer to store and transport.  Coleman fuel (white gas) used to be more economical than propane but I don't know if that's true anymore or not.  I'd go propane.

  2. Propane offers a much wider range of options in cooking equipment and is easier to use.

I have both and the only time I use white gas (coleman fuel) is when I go backpacking. If you have to carry it, fuel is lighter and and not a bulky as propane.

  3. Propane is easier and more convenient.  It is significantly more expensive than running on white gas, but most people will not use their equipment enough to recapture the added cost of white gas stoves and lanterns.

I prefer the white gas for versatility - I can take one can of gas and run my stove and lantern for over a week, using them every day for every meal, and don't have to keep multiple propane cylinders around.

The other advantage for white gas is that it will function regardless of temperature.  If you plan to do cold weather camping, propane cylinders tend not to work well in the cold, especially when the cylinder is partially used.

All that being said, those benefits or drawbacks don't impact most people, so the largest portion of people will choose propane and will never encounter a problem.

  4. Propane if you are going car or rv camping but if you are going backpacking bring white gas.

  5. I guess that by 'fuel', you mean Coleman fuel (or white gasoline).

Propane is easier and arguably safer to store and transport. I prefer it to gasoline, especially when backpacking.

  6. I really like the white gas because I know that it's not temperature sensitive at all,it's readily available , i will always get 100% usage out of every tank of it and in a pinch i can always use regular unleaded automotive fuel

Back in the day when Amoco was the only company that carried unleaded pump gas ,those of us using Svea & Optimus backpacking stoves had  a mental list of all the Amoco stations that were in the area that we were going to be hiking in.

We'd fill our fuel bottles up with nine cents worth of gas, give the guy a dime  and be on our way.

  7. i like to use propane
