  1. Try to visit this website which I just came across, a lot of information on study abroad, hopefully may help you:

  2. in my experience, homestays are better.  you get to practice the language at home and learn about the culture.  if you have a question or need assistance with anything while you are there, your host family is there to help you and can provide you with information that you cannot get so easily if you choose to live in a hotel.  Your meals are provided for you and in most cases, the family will do the laundry and you don't have to worry about cleaning the house.  everything is done for you.  Your host family can also show you things that a normal tourist would not know about the country and take you to places that are fantastic and more times than not are not touristy areas.  I believe you will experience a lot more if you live with a homestay.  You also get to make lasting friendships with the people you stay with.  My last study abroad program that I participated in was four years ago and I still talk to and visit with my host family in fact I plan to study in the university there to get my master's degree starting next year and my host family from four years ago are helping with the details on that end so that I don't have to travel back and forth between the two countries to make my dreams happen.  so I would definitely say homestay...don't give the hotel another thought...besides a hotel is just that...a hotel.  You will still have freedom living in the homestay...I promise. :)

  3. To be honest, it really depends on what your looking for. Homestay are better for cultural and language immersion, because students are able to practice their language skills and learn about the culture from the family dynamic. However, hotels/ dormitory's are also a good alternative if students are interested in getting a glimpse of college life and seek independence. I am a program advisor with Intrax study abroad and we offer both types of accomodations for our summer programs depending on the country of interest.
