Question:

Which is better for the bike?

I'm looking at a Yakima hitch mount system and was going to get the Double Down. I heard that bikes get banged up pretty badly on them and that the anti-sway device can eat up the paint. I was told the tray systems are better, such as the HoldUp.

Anyone have any experiences that can contradict the opinion of the Double Down??? The tray systems are more than I care to spend, but if it's really going to wreck my bike to have the Double Down, I don't have a bunch 'o cash laying around to buy a new bike, either.

  1. I've probably owned about every kind of rack system imaginable, and the one I own now is a cheap receiver mount one from Performance called the Xport.  Works great!

I agree that you should stay away from the "swinging" systems like the Double Down.

Link below.  It's on sale right now.  I liked mine so much I bought one for my daughter's car too.
