Which is better for you: water or Gatorade?

You are supposed to drink 8 glasses of water a day right? What if you traded that water for Gatorade? Which would be healthier? This excludes all exercising.

I have heard that Gatorade is better if you are exercising for long periods of time though.

Can someone confirm this mystery too?

  1. Garorade is intended for consumption during physically active occasions, Gatorade is formulated to rehydrate and replenish fluid, carbohydrates and electrolytes(en.wikipedia.com). I think that taking Gatorade even if you are not exercising is not that bad, but make it a point to not forget to drink water everyday because water is very important in our body. Gatorade is only a supplement and helps you revive your energy after a hard days exercise or work. just try to balance drinking water and Gatorade...that's all.....:]

  2. Ok as a former football player i am going to give you some facts:

    8 8oz glasses a water a day. so like either 4 16 oz bottles or 3 1/5th bottles of 20 oz

As for gatorade, it is best if you are an active person. When you lose a pound in body weight, you drink 16 ounces for each pound lost after the 8 recommended glasses. Gatorade is more for active people b/c it puts in electrolytes and it is 50 calories for a 8 ounce serving so 200 calories a bottle b/c it is 32 ounces. When i was in 2 a day practices, i would lose like 4-5 pounds a day so i would drink like the 8 glasses of water and then  2 big bottles of gatorade. Gatorade has more stuff in it to keep you going that is why i drunk some before my second practice and some afterards. So Gatorade is good for activive, athletic lifestyles. Water is good all the time. just dont overhydrate  yourself.

  3. Water is healthier, it has all the natural ingredients for the body.

Gatorade, may have additional vitamins due to wich taste, but the coloring and the rest artificial materials included make GATORADE LESS HEALTHIER.

TIP: IF YOU ARE FROM NEWYORK CITY ,,, THE WATER FROM HOME IS HEALTHIER THAN ANY BOTTLE OF WATER YOU BUY IT FROM THE MARKET.

  4. DUH...water!

  5. Well first of all wrong. The 8 glasses of water is outdated and inaccurate. We need 1 ounce for every 2 pounds of body weight plus 8 more ounces for every 20 minutes of exercise or activity. With hot/dry days and climates we need even more.

For just regular drinking water is much better. There is no reason to drink gatorade unless you are exercising or even working in hot weather where you are sweating a lot. Otherwise you are taking in to many sugars, calories, carbs, and electrolytes that simply are not needed for regular drinking.

  6. Water. Gatorade has too much sugar and other junk.

  7. water.

  8. Water is technically "healthier" but if you're dehydrated Gatorade will get more fluid into your body quicker b/c of solutes (the electrolytes they advertise) in it. So Gatorade is superior to water at hydrating you, but so is OJ or apple juice for the same reason.

  9. I agree with everyone else water is definetly better!

Gatoride is full of sugar which would give you more energy but i doubt it is a better choice.

  10. I run 3,5 km (1-2 miles) about 3-4 times per week. I drink enough water, I will not say that I am an 8 glass daily drinker. If I have to break it down - Water. It's the purest form of health and life for me.

Gatorade does hydrate you and it does contain carbohydrates, which are good when you play FOOTBALL or BASKETBALL, or any major contact or active sport.

As a female, I would say water is healthier for our weight and our beauty. For football, basketball, or tough muscle men, I would recommend Gatorade. BUT NEVER EVER forget to drink water additionally. An old track coach of my high school (when I was in High School) mixed water and Gatorade, he also said to the team, "Remember to eat your nooodles."

So, I do not believe that Gatorade alone is even enough.

Water is a pure form of health. There are minerals in it, naturally, which help you stay hydrated and balanced.

    :) Hope this helps

  11. water good for thirst gatorade 4 energy

  12. It says that you should drink about 8 bottles of water but no one really does. I would say on average you should maybe drink three. Water is way healthier because it is natural. It may not taste the best but it's what your body needs to stay naturally hydrated. They made gatorade because it taste good. And it helps. But always go for water as a drink its the worlds best drink for you.

  13. Gatorade is extremely unhealthy.  It is full of high-fructose corn syrup, which is proven to make you fat.  The only reason Gatorade is used in sports is because it has a high electrolyte content.  This helps speed replenishment of things like potassium and sodium to working muscles.  Most people who play sports burn enough calories to off-set the potential weight-gain that could come from drinking Gatorade alone.  If you are not exercising, drink water.

  14. Water is better.

  15. WATER

Gatorade is godd for athletes during sports but nothing beats waters

  16. when ever you compare God verses man ( i.e. water vs gatorade) man will lose. gatorade is has a lot of electrolytes and other things you need... but it has an ungodly amount of sugar in it. look at the servings. which will eventuaily make you crash. and if you drink it a lot of it, the glucose (sugar) will store as body fat. water don't do that...

  17. Go with water, because it has not calories and not sugar.

  18. Water is better. If you are an intense athlete you might want the extra electrolytes, but I wouldn't want all of the sugar, flavouring and calories of gatorade. If you just switched from water to gatorade and didn't change anything else you would gain weight. Stick to the water.

  19. no water is much better for you gatorade is filled with sugars and artificial c**p waters just minerals and stuff so ya water.
