  1. You should learn on whatever guitar is best suited to the music you're interested in playing.  Don't buy an acoustic if you're really interested in electric guitar music because it just won't hold your interest as well.

Both an acoustic and an electric guitar if set up properly will be easy enough for you to play.  On either one your fingertips will hurt for a week or so but after that it's smooth sailing.

  2. If you want good musical technique I would recommend learning acoustic first.  If you don't care about playing well, then you would get twice the sound for half the effort on an electric guitar.

When I learned to drive I learned stick cuz now I can drive an automatic too, but if you learn on automatic, you can't drive stick without additional training. See?  Knowing acoustic means I can play electric if I want to any time.  But, if you learn on electric, you will have a harder time if you ever want to play acoustic.  So it's up to you.  Good luck

  3. you decide! in my opinion acoustic and electric make no difference in the beginning, but it depends on the style of music you like. it also depends on you buget. if you only have 100 dollars or so i suggest an acoustic guitar. of you have like 200 dollars get a decent electric guitar beginner pack. look for one that includes the guitar, an amplifier, aand a cable. I suggest the ibanez electric guitar jumpstart package.( http://www.guitarcenter.com/Ibanez-IJX40... ) in this pack you get a guitar, 15 watt amp, cable, strap, picks, a tuner, headphones and case, which is every thing you need. its $250 but its worth it

  4. you can start on either. personally when i started i was only interested in playing with a band. so i started with an electric, but after a few years bought an acoustic electric. now i am straight acoustic most of the time. playing electric offers a lot of shortcuts to making music and is far easier to play ( much lighter strings) BUT i think by starting on electric, i focused on the toys before the music for my first 5 years of playing. acoustic forces you to get good tone and play correctly, and is easier just to pick up and play.

  5. Try this web site for free tuition on Guitar playing, it covers electric and acoustic guitar chords. It is excellent and has everything you want and need to learn for guitar..

    Good luck.

  6. an acoustic really, i think an electric guitar is the next level, it'd be easier to learn the notes, and other things like that if you buy an acoustic, i have an electric guitar, and i can't hardly play it, now i wish that i had an acoustic because it probably would have helped me learn faster. but yea you should get an acoustic.

  7. I tell all my students to start out with a Yamaha acoustic.....moderately priced, they have very nice ones at the Guitar Center for about $250.00 and even less when on sale.....and I got a flier the other day their having some kind of sale on left over Christmas stock !!!!!!!!!!! Good luck.

P.S. Don't buy On line, you have to play a guitar to see if the sound and action is right for you !!!!!!!!!!!
