  1. go learn a martial art boxing is great but most boxers cant really kick very well sl all you have to do is repeatedly kick their legs from just far enough wawy that they cant punch you and they are pretty easy to beat. but as soon as they get a punch or a couple of punches in you are screwed.

  2. I've often wondered about that myself. I think most boxers would be ready to face a resisting person (someone that wants to hurt you too) But street fights don't have rules so if they stick to the training rules then they may be at a disadvantage. If the boxer can understand that there are no rules he can do just as much damage. A martial artist usually don't train for streetfighting and depending on the art there may or may not be as much sparring. So all of the useful techniques if practiced on a buddy that "gives" you the move then they may have some trouble. One that is aggressive by nature could prevail. So I guess that was a long winded way of saying "It depends on the person using the boxing or martial art". I'm still of the mind that something is better than nothing so both have an advantage over someone that does nothing. I still think it's best not to get into street fights in the first place. If you don't participate then it is just an attack. If you willing fight for your Honor or Pride then you are at a disadvantage no matter what style you have because you are fighting without good reason and eventually you will meet  your match.

  3. Boxing is a martial art.

The better fighter is the one who has paid their dues, usually.

I prefer to have the legs as an optional weapon.

  4. martial arts? so u mean karate? cause every martial art is karate right? r u ***** serious? theres muay thai, krav maga, wing chun, JKD, TKD, shaolin long fist and thousands more. oh btw boxing is a sport NOT a martial art. u try "opening up" a combo with a jab and the second u hesitate a street fighter will tackle u

  5. boxing is a martial art

  6. I'd say boxing.

It teaches you to  use your main natural form of defense, your fists, and is more practical and quicker to learn

Oriental martial arts tend to take longer to learn just because you have more weapons to master(legs, elbows ect)  plus alot of them have become more ceremonial than anything over the years, where boxing has nothing ceremonial.

Now, boxing isnt super easy to learn either, but at least you'll be able to defend yourself in a month rather than a year.

If you can after your comfortable with boxing, you might also want to throw in some muay thai to learn to use your legs.

  7. Find a good gym that teaches MMA.  I saw on tv where all martial arts are going toward MMA.  The Gracies say that more than 90% of all real world fights go to the ground.  This is why they think they have the best.  They might be.  However clinch fighting, boxing, and wresteling all mixed in with BJJ makes a good beginning fighter pretty quick even if you are just beginning.

  8. Use whatever you have been trained to do. If possible avoid fighting.

Boxing is considered to be a martial arts. I have trained in boxing. But I have a lot more training in Eastern cultures martial arts. I would never attempt to just box to defend myself. Not because it is not effective. It is not effective for me. I'm not a boxer. I wouldn't try to wrestle because I'm not a wrestler. But I would use a throw, joint lock, choke, kick or back fist because this is what I have been trained to do. That is what is what will give me an advantage.
