Which is better in goinf to maranello from rome? by plane or by train? and can you recommend any hotel?

should i sleep in maranello or bologna? Is an overnight stay enough? i just want a tour of the ferrari museum since i'am a huge f1 fan. Ill be flying off to athens after maranello? Any comments or help?

Stay in Bologna and drive over to Maranello (you can get from Rome to Bologna by train fairly easily -- taking the express train from Fiumicino airport to the main train station Termini and then getting on a train for Bologna. I don't recommend flying because it is costly and internal flights in Italy are unreliable as far as being on-time, etc.). It's only going to take you a few hours at most to see the museum -- it's very small -- and maybe walk over and see the entrance to the Ferrari museum (no one allowed inside -- no tours either).

There's not much in Maranello other than the Ferrari museum so no need to stay over. Bologna on the other hand is a really nice town with lots ot see and do and great restaurants. I don't know what kind of accommodations you are looking for but I've stayed both in the Corona D'Ora (http://www.bolognarthotels.it/alberghi-c... in the historic center of town, and the Sheraton Airport Hotel and can highly recommend both. Obviously the Corona D'Ora is great if you've got time to check out the town, which I recommend. But if you've got an early flight, stay at the Sheraton and take advantage of their free shuttles to the airport or town center.

Eating in Bologna be sure to eat Tortellini with ragu Bolognese. Lots of good restaurants but I like Scacco Matto in Via Broccindosso for things a little bit different.

just tourists put ragù on tortellini: we eat them with cream or in broth

If you need to overnight in Bologna, I hightly recommend Albergo Drapperie, a B&B in the centre of the city center.
