Which is better place for learning to surf - Santa Cruz CA or Half Moon Bay CA?

I'm looking to take up surfing lessons and live in Mountain View CA. I know there are surf schools in both Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay so just wondering which would be the better one to try. They're both approximately the same distance from my house.

Santa Cruz. If you are learning you need milder conditions than Half Moon Bay. There are plenty of schools near the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, and you can learn to surf right across the street, at Cowell's beach.

santa cruz is less sharky....so try HMB......we're too crowded now in SC
