Should I get a rat or mouse ? Which is easier and also more fun? And whichever I get I know I would need two, but can I get one to start with then possibly get another?

  1. Rats rule!! but there is nothing wrong with mice since I have never owned one!

  2. get 2 rats. they wont bite and will hardly fight with each other. mice will most likely bite you, and well i think they are too small

  3. rats!! rats are way less harder to take care of and rats can learn tricks!

  4. rats are more expensive, but are friendlier and smarter. mice are more cutesy and don't take up as much space. it's your choice. and it's best to start off with a couple from the same litter, because otherwise they might not get along.

  5. rats they are funner cuter and more entertaining. most of the previous people said don'tt mix them if they are from different litters this is not true. i have four rats that live in the same cage and they are from threeseparatee litters. also they are all different ages. one is one one is 6 months and the sister are 4 months. they get along great. most of the times youcann introduce them slowly. ( i had mine in threeseparatee cages for a month before i introduced all of them together) how you introduce them is in a room where they cant escape let them play together for a little while. many times when you have a lone rat it will be so happy to play with other rats it forgets to be territorial. the only exception is if the rats were not socialized with other rats. ( yes they need to be socialized) rats love other rats and like to be with them as well. rats need to be kept in groups of two or more and need to behandledd. if you can not provide each individual rat an hour of play time get a mouse or hamster. better yetdon'tt get a pet. if you can afford the bedding and food get a rat. young rats eat more than big rats and they need more patience and time. if you do decide to get one have fun they are sweet lovable pets. my favorite variety are the dumbos and hairless, they have great attitudes and are the easiest to tame.

  6. rats are friendlier and smarter. mice are nice too and sometimes bite but it does'nt  hurt at all.

if you get mice then get 2 females. they are lonely without friends to clean and play with.

  7. rats you can train them and everything. mice are less expensive but very timid and hard to tame. both are fine pets, rats just require more attention.

  8. To me rats are better, if you want someone to play with when your bored. Mice just like to be pet every once in a while and dont like to be handled. Im about to get a rat and a very good website to go to is dapper.com, they tell you how to make rat cages and how to make toys. Mice just are littler rats. think of it that way

    hope i helped :)

  9. Rats all the way! They are slightly bigger, harder to lose, not quite as fragile as a mouse and personally I think they stink a lot less. But mine might of stunk so bad because my brother never cleaned their cage.

It would be preferable to get a pair from the same litter, this way you know they will get along most of the time, and you don't have to worry about spreading different diseases to a healthy animal, therefore no need to quarantine.

If you get just one to start with and then try to get another one there could be complications. First being they might not ever get along. And second being, you would need to quarantine them before even introducing them, and you might still pass diseases on to the other rat.

Getting a male or female really depends on what you are looking for. As males get older they become a lap rats, where as females tend to bee active for most of their life. Both sexes scent mark(or dribble urine) all over the place, but I've heard it can be stopped in males if they get fixxed. I've also heard that it never stops in females.

If you decide to only get one rat with hopes of adding another one in later it would be best to get a female, because they are more likely to get along with another female when introduced. A male is more likely to become territorial and not welcome another male. When trying this with either s*x it would be best to add a young rat rather than an adult.

  10. I've never had a rat, but one of my friends did and she said he was a lot of fun and very intelligent.  I've heard they can be trained to do little tricks too.  I've had mice and they are also really great pets.  But be careful putting several together, even if they are from the same litter, very good chance they will fight to the death and should be separated before the trouble starts.  Also, I wouldn't recommend getting one and then getting another one later, the first one will probably immediately be very territorial and not react well to the newcomer who is invading his cage!
