  1. In today's game if you want to excell on all surfaces you need both. The one you should concentrate on depends a lot on your type of game and physical stature, ie serve volley or more baseline player (consider Federer and Nadal). But for the volley off the backhandside if you only have the two handed groundstroke this will negatively effect your wrist strength at the net.

  2. I am right hand player and play single backhand. I have to play double backhand for my practice as instructor. Double backhand is fast, sharp but needs a good footwork. Single is stronger and robust. It gives more freedom of movements on court and looks better (Federer) You must to know good both to have a choice.

  3. double is better id say. Im on single handed backhand player but wish i was taught double when i was younger. Double handed backhand players are more consistent on that side. You normally find that a single handed backhand players weak side is his/her backhand. They normally make up for thier weak side by having a strong forehand like gonzalez, federer, haas. even gasquets backhand id say is his weakness. The single backhand is hard to hit on high, deep bouncing balls but the double handed is easier but still tough. Anlgles are easier to hit with double but i find you can generate more power with single, tho wats power with no control??

  4. lol the "japanese... " guy is talkin ou his ****...he obviously dos'nt no what he is talkin about. i am a part time tenis couch, if you are just starting out then you are best off experimenting with both backhands. as "japanese... " so wrongly put it he said that the double has more control.....it dos'nt its the single that has more control but the double has a lot more power. hope this is helpful to you.

  5. double

  6. if you r right handed and the ball comes to your right then single is powerful, and if the ball comes to your left then backhand is the powerful.

  7. Depends on the players. In Federer's case, he has a very wierd way to make those single backhand into very strong offensive weapon. In Sampara's case, he uses it defensively and change speed to draw errors from opponents. Players use double backhand to gain more control but single backhand is more flexible.

In my opinion, learn both and see which one is more suitable for you. I would say double backhand first because controlling the ball is the most important for beginners for all sports. I found single backhand is easier for me though.

  8. justine henin's backhand is better than any single or double backhand.

  9. i`m not sure bcoz it`s all depends on your strength and how well you use it. but my choice would be double backhand bcoz i think it`s more powerful and pretty much useful.....hope it helped...

  10. It depends. For low tennis balls, you should have a one hander. If you like to chase down balls and slice, you should use a one hander. If your consistent, use a two hander. It all depends on your style of play.
