  1. virgin

  2. Don't go with BT. Last time I had a problem with them I had to serve court papers before they'd sort it. It cost them a lot of money in the end because nobody from BT turned up at court!

  3. BT.  I changed from Sky because it was rubbish.  The broadband dropped off every evening when it got busy.  The service centre was c*rap.   I have had no problems with BT and the Newcastle call entre is very good.  I would not touch Sky again.

  4. You get what you pay for. Remember that except for Virgin, they all need a BT line to work.

BT provide a great technical service (i.e. you get a lot for your money and it's very much more reliable than most).

The Hub & its IP phone (you don't have to use the BT one, any modern cheap handset will work with the Hub) give you up to 3 "extra" independent telephone lines to your house for free (handy if you have teenagers).

The other included  facilities such as unlimited email storage, the vBox, Digital Vault, Flikr etc. are very good.

Unfortunately, on the rare occasions when you do get a fault then you find that the BT customer service is absoluteley appalling. It's bad enough waiting up to 40 minutes to talk to someone but then you're routed to an Indian call centre where they can't even pronounce your name properly and all they seem to be able to do is "test your line" (which invariably finds nothing wrong) before transferring you to a so-called broadband team who eventually attend to the fault. It teaches you patience.

It's just as well that BT are probably one of the most reliable ISPs because you don't want to go through all that very often.

I have a friend on Virgin, which is cheaper than BT, who is really hacked off with the lack of reliability of his service and very limited email service. He has said that if he had a BT line at home then he would ditch Virgin like a shot.

I had some experience with Tiscali.... never again!!!!

AOL is exactly what it says it is: America On Line. The presentation etc. may not be entirely to your taste.

Basically, all ISPs are poor. They rely on the banks' thinking: that people are reluctant to change because of the hassle. The only difference is in the degree of badness. Remember, you get what you pay for.

  5. hi i am with bt but always end up in india i am not able to understand them, they have sorted problems but it always takes a long time.can you let me have the adress in the uk when bt is working it is good .

  6. have been with bt for 5 years now but am thinking about changing ISP. bt are a big headache, in the begin you come in english speaking call centers, but once you are in and paying , try and get help!! You will be send to a call centre somewhere in India, impossible to understand and when you ask them to repeat whatever they said . they hang up on you.

last time it took us three days and loads of calls to get the problem sorted.Appart from the call centre i cannot fault it

  7. i think still ntl or now known as virgin media is still the best
