  1. DO NOT waste your money on a DVD based camcorder.

    The hard drive based camcorder will be OK - if your video editor can handle AVCHD-compressed video. For Windows,  MovieMaker cannot - Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere (new versions) can. For Macintosh, iMovieHD08 and current versions of FinalCut (Express or Pro 2) can deal with AVCHD.
