  1. i would suspect this is p2 only. it looks like this cam is going to be pretty expensive and a disadvantage with the p2 system is that the p2 cards are cost prohibitive.

if you were to consider the sony ex xdcam:

you can see it uses a similar system but the cards are around a 1/4 of the price. they are in partnership with sandisk so they are not restricted to sony only products.

in addition, if you have an express card input they will slot straight into your computer without expensive stand alone decks for importing/exporting.

the xd ex cam will take 2 x 16 gb card for a max of 2 hours full hi-def running at 1920 x 1080 resolution.

    hope it helps!

  2. DVCam an DVCPro are formats while mini dv and P2 are two different storage solutions. P2 is better than mini dv in terms of quality because it can handle better video with more mb/s. DVCam and DVCPro come in many versions; the HPX500 uses the best of the DVCPro family.

The HPX500 is 100% P2 and captures in DVCPro HD. It's great quality and records at about 100 Mbits/s. The only downside, which is minor relative to the quality, is that the bigger data takes up more storage space.
