  1. Depends on what you need them for.

Since you're in ROTC, you'll mostly be looking for in garrison answers so:

The ACUs are more comfortable to wear than the BDUs. They require no prep, wash and wear. The velcro can be annoying as eventually it wears out on the pockets. This can be fixed by adding zippers to the front slant pockets and zippers or hidden buttons to the side leg cargo pockets. Those simple modifications make it a much better uniform to deal with and when the velcro wears out, you won't have to worry about your stuff falling out. For you, this shouldn't be an issue at all but good information for later down the road.

Since you just need them for ROTC, find whatever is cheaper (AFTER whatever nametapes and patches you will need to have and for BDUs, factor in the cost of getting them sewn on). Buy the cheapest since you won't really be using it for much.

To respond to DELTA's comment below mine:

I've been deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, I've worn BDUs, DCUs, MARPAT, ACUs, MULTICAM, and a few other off the shelf uniforms and camo patterns. If you'd like to discuss "combat" and what uniform has the best functionality, feel free to contact me. Until then, stop playing internet tough guy, little one.

  2. BDUs are much better!

  3. All my ACUS are ripped after only 6 months of work. The only plus side to em is you don't have to iron em. And tan boots don't need any polishing. Makes the army seem a little lazy nowadays, but I guess the focus today is on retention and war. Better off gettin the ACUS though. You'll be wearin em somewhere down the road.

  4. If you have been to IRAK, which is the main purpose and deciding factor behind combat uniforms [*rolleyes*], then you would know that the ACUs are far superior to BDU/DCUs. If you haven't been to IRAK, then your opinion on the matter is worthless.

    The answer is ACUs.

Anyone who says otherwise has not seen combat in the desert, and you should disregard their worthless input.

  5. either way you are going to have to have acu's however, the bdu is a much better uniform, you can put em through h**l and they will last, the acu tears apart when you sit down wrong, I have a c**p load of acu's and the ones i've worn for 6 months or more are pretty much junk and tore up

  6. The BDU was more durable fabric, but I like the ACU better, its wash and wear, I used to spend soo much time spraying starch and getting shoe polish all over every night just to go train and ruin all the hard work.  Also the BDU's camo was better, there have only been a few times where I have seen the ACU work.  The word floating around is that we should be changing uniforms again to a pattern similar to the BDU but better...we will see

  7. As an old Soldier I prefer the BDU's but I'm open to being convinced of the ACU's.  My son seems to like the ACU's.  Well maybe I'm not the one to answer this, I really prefer the old jungle fatigues the grand daddy of all of them.  Good luck to you pardner.

  8. i would like a uniform that is as tough and durable as the bdus but as light-weight and perm press as the acus.  also i think it would be great if somehow we could keep the hook tape concept and still be able to iro or press the uniform.  but whatever happens please please please dont bring back the leather boots, i for one cant stand shining boots.  unless of course im in class A's in an AIRBORNE unit.
