Which is better. the canon powershot or sony cybershot? i want a fast and good quality camera?

Go to DPReview to do the side-by-side comparison.

I would go with the Canon just to avoid the Sony proprietary memory stick format.

Otherwise they are close enough that you could just wait and see which one has the best summer sale.

I think the Canon's overall are better cameras, except for the SD models.  While the SD models are good and very compact, their controls are more difficult to operate.  

The Sony Cybershots are good and compact and are much more intuitive to control.

Well i have a sony cybershot..and i think the pictures come out amazinnngg. 2 me canon and sony point and shoots picture quality are the same so pick the cheaper one make sure they have good megapixels though

I think Canon gets better reviews because cameras are their main product, whereas Sony just makes it because they make every kind of electronic.  I'd go with Canon because they are tested and created with lots of care.  If you've ever used a Canon before, the controls are pretty much the exact same configuration.  So base it on that if you'd like.
