Which is better to clean your carpet, chem dry or a regular carpet shampooer?

Chem Dry is a professional cleaning service which uses certain chemicals not available to the homeowner.

A carpet shampooer is actually a scrubbing machine (with brushes) After the carpet dries you have to vaccuum the dried  dirt from the carpet,  at least the portion that wasn't forced to the bottom of the floor.

Then theres the ''steamer extractor'' System which applies a wet solution and immediately sucks it and the dirt out of the carpet.

I have always preferred the extraction method. Rug Doctor is a good machine for this.
