Which is better to use?

Which is better to use, a surge protector (with 6 ports) or an extension wire (with 3 port)?

I`m in the midst of connecting my PC, monitor, speakers, modem and printer and I don`t know which is best for the job.

surge protector always but if you have the money invest in a UPS
