Which is better - using the "progressive scan" feature (and connections) on a DVD player...?

...or using an HDMI cable to connect the DVD player to a high-definition TV? I read that using the HDMI cable is the best way to go, but I also read that progressive scan on a standard DVD looks better than upsampling on a high-def TV. I don't know. It's a standard DVD player that does both upsampling and progressive scan. Right now I have it connected to the TV with an HDMI cable. Will using the progressive scan feature (and the special component cables) give me a better picture on a high-def TV?

  1. upsampling is a step up from progressive scan and includes it.

That being said, your HD TV also does upsampling internally on a progressive scan input, so it's all in which one does the better job. Try it both ways.

  2. depends to too many things.  Drink some warm milk and just try it to see what works better for you.

    it will be okay.

  3. The progressive scan feature will not be improved with

component video connections as opposed to HDMI on

an HDTV.  Also, HDMI (if your TV is so equipped) will

give you up to 1080p, whereas CV will do up to 1080i.
