  1. i think that turning on a lamp is worse but if everybody used candles then were would all the wax come from and we would have to go back to lamp =/

    bibi

    xx xx

  2. neither of them do anything, and that is combined with the millions of other people who use them.

  3. I believe lighting a candle is better, and lamp is worse.

the candle only burns minimal organic wax, and releases little heat and soot.

the lamp -  requires electricity which is made (currently) very inefficiently- burning tons of coal into the atmoshphere, all the trucks they use to keep the faicilites, and blah blah blah

  4. Hum. A good question to ponder! But it is kind of like asking which is better for the body, to eat a plum or to eat a tomato. Hum!!!

  5. Lighting a candle is worse, because the energy required in the chain of getting the candle from production -> to your house. Packaging, shipping back and forth from stores to warehouses. Not even making a candles yourself is more efficient, because you must aquire those raw materials somehow. Only the rich burn candles.

  6. turning on a  lamp... worse. it uses an engery sourse. so... ya

  7. It depends on the candle, the bulb and the electric source.

Many candles have chemical fragrances and create soot,so a beeswax candle in a reusable holder with an organic cotton wick would be great.

LED bulbs use the least amount of electricity, and if you used a renewable energy source and recycled the bulb that would be great too.

Of course the best answer is to use natural daylight it creates no waste. Both other choices have varying degrees of waste or pollution associated with it.

  8. I think candle is better like one of them said the trucks etc,but if the candle burn the house and your house is near a woods or what,it cause more harm

  9. I don't think either one will harm our environment but the candle would pollute more.

The electricity used in your lamp was produced under very stringent regulations.

The soot is removed from the flue gas with electrostatic precipitators, mercury is removed with scrubbers, and the nox is controlled by adjusting where air is introduced into the fireball in the boiler.

The only thing left coming out of a power plant stack is co2 ( which is the same gas that we exhale and not a pollutant ) and water vapor ( the same stuff floating around in the clouds in the sky ).

It is time for everybody to step out of the time warp they are living in and quit complaining about burning coal in our power plants, we have a 500 year supply of it and if you have not noticed we no longer have big black clouds hanging over our power plants in the U.S.

The more we restrict power production in the U.S. the more it increases in other countries without our regard for air quality.

For instance, in china they are building 2 new coal powered plants / week and without our requirements for clean air standards those plants do have the big black sooty clouds hanging over them.

The more expensive we make our production of power here at home, the cheaper it is for goods to be manufactured in countries with little regard for the quality of the environment.

  10. Lightning produces NO2 which is a fertilizer for plants....
