1. I live in TX also, but I am in 10th grade, I have been homeschooled since 2nd grade so I'm not sure what public school is like anymore. Being homeschooled has it's ups and it's downs. I prefer to be homeschooled anyday though, because I can do my work on my terms and not with the public school terms. Books are somewhat expensive if you buy them new, but if you go to a book store that sells used books you can get work books from there ALOT cheaper. It's hard to keep up with the word at first but you'll get it. Since your only in 6th grade I think you should be homeschooled now. You don't want to be in public school up to 8th grade then get pulled out for homeschooling. Try talking to your parent(s). (I also wear glasses and my friends think it's hot, haha) Don't be ashamed of the glasses!! Everyone at your school is probably jealous cause they want some to :P

    Hope this helps!!

    Much love.

  2. Public school is better for some, homeschooling is better for some, other options are better for some. Asking which one is better is like asking which colour looks best on people--it depends on the person.

Are you dedicated to doing good work while at home?

Will you make sure to ask your parents to get you involved in a variety of activities?

Are they even the slightest bit willing to do this?

You need to take care of these things. As for cost of homeschooling, it depends on how it's done. If you do online schooling, it might be free--http://www.k12.com and click on Get K12 to see if it's available where you live. http://www.connectionsacademy.com might also be available where you live. If you're looking at some other stort of computer program, it'll depend on the program. Another option is for your parents to decide what you'll do, but since this is your idea, they might not really be prepared for that at this point.

  3. at your age, it's prabably better to stay in regular public school. You can join in sports, drama, music clubs etc while in public school and meet all kinds of new people. That doesn't happen when home schooled. Also, you'll have better luck and more expoerienced teachers for high school and getting into college if thats what you want to do. Stay in school, keep your head up and do your best. The rest will fall in place later on.

  4. Homeschooling can be great IF your parents are involved and and willing to do the work involved in teaching you.

You have to talk to them first.

  5. Exactly who will home school you what is the knowledge or qualifications of your tutors ??

Whether you like it or not you need to be in high school being taught by qualified tutors as to the bullying teasing about yoru glasses well that happens in all walks of life your answers to that problem are as follows

    1: get contact lenses.

2: report the bullies to your teachers principal etc

    or

3: stick up for yourself if someone bullies you rip their face off they kinda get the message don't mess with that person cause it hurts!

    Good Luck

  6. In my opinion, home schooling is fine for elementary levels, marginal for middle school, and substandard for high school. As the level of instruction becomes more advanced, fewer people have the qualifications to effectively teach the subjects: you cannot teach what you do not know.

  7. We can't really tell you which would be better for you; homeschooling is better for some kids, and public or private school is better for some kids.

My son is in 5th and has been homeschooled since 1st. He went to three years of private school (that he loved) before that, but chose to be homeschooled when we moved. He's really thankful to be homeschooled and wouldn't trade it for anything.

This is something you really need to discuss with your parents, as you're not old enough to "homeschool yourself". You do still need someone at home with you and someone to supervise your studies, and that will most likely be one of your parents. Is your mom or dad currently a stay at home parent? If not, that's something for them to to consider.

There are plenty of online schools that carry a middle school program, K12 is the most common one. Depending on what state you live in, this may be free or it may carry a yearly or monthly tuition. If you can tell us what state you live in, we can offer more suggestions.

I homeschool my 10 year old for around $2-300 per year, but I pull a lot of his curriculum together myself. It does take more time for me than if I just bought his curriculum somewhere, but it costs less this way (I don't work outside the home except to teach co op classes) and it works better for him. I'm telling you this because if your parents aren't able to spend a lot of money on curriculum, it's probably going to cost them time in putting it together themselves (unless there is a free online school in your state).

Talk to your parents, see what they say, and let us know if you have any other questions. If you can tell us what state you're in (you don't have to get any more specific than the state, you don't want to tell people on the internet what city/town you live in), we can tell you if there are any free online schools available to you. Hope that helps!

Edit: K12 does have a free online school in Texas, here's the link. http://www.txva.org/ It is a public school, so you still have to go by the public school rules - you have to work with their curriculum and testing schedule. Some families are good with that, some aren't. I don't know their rules about enrolling mid-year, but your parents can call or email them and ask.

Also - TX has very easy homeschool laws. All your parents need to to is notify the school district that they're withdrawing you, and start homeschooling. If you go through K12, they'll keep all your records; if not, your parents will need to keep your attendance, subject, and grade records. Hope that helps!

  8. We have a better option for you...... Try to visit our webiste at www.pdlpioneer.net we offer online degree programs......

    Georgetown Wesleyan University

  9. Well, homeschooling is better for some kids while public school is better for others depending on their situation. Studies have proven though that the majority of homeschooled kids do better on tests and in college than publicschoolers. It's also really good because you aren't distracted by all the social stuff (crushes, cliques, bullying). You can just focus on learning (which is what school is about). So if you are a serious learner than homeschooling is better. But if you just goof off and need a strict teacher on your tail all the time to keep up with your work, than you might want to stick with public or private schools. Computer programs are great and the cost just depends on the individual program but there are also text books you can get. Oakmeadow.com is one homeschool online place I know of. For more info you can go to homeschoolreviews.com. A good place for homeschool books and stuff is rainbowresources.com. There's not one price. It ranges from free (going to the library) to $1000 on lots of materials. That's what's great about homeschooling- you can make it fit your budget.

Hope I helped! You go girl! :)

    Gracie ♥

I just read some other peoples answers and would like to say:

That you can meet plenty of people when homeschooled. You can join sports teams, take extra classes at co-ops, and do all those thing that they offer in public school.

Also, homeschool parents don't have to know a lot about all the subjects their kids are learning. That's what the curriculum is for!

    Sheesh! These people! ;)

  10. home schooling is great you can graduate early and with program like mine you follow along with the lesson and teaching material they make for you this program isn't in every state but check it out it is great with out tings teachers on line fun classes but quitting school because you have glasses is silly who cares what they think hold your head up and be proud of who you are kids are rotten I know so think long and hard about it before you leave here is the site www/k12 .com and talk with your parents are they willing to home school you and in this school and others Middle School starts in Seventh grade not sixth good luck

  11. People home school for many reasons, but in most cases home schooling is a life style that includes an academic component for the children.

We home school, and would not even consider another option for our children, and for that matter neither would they.

When home schooling, parents are the primary instructors; they can include coops, tutors, or simple study/support groups for both the children, and themselves, but the parents help with, and provide most of the educational opportunities.

Home schooling is not a simple matter of bringing the school home and doing school @ home, it is much more.

Home schooling is not done on the same grade levels, or schedule as a conventional school, unless you do public school on line, which if it is available in your state could be an option for you to explore; in that case you would still be a public school student; these programs are not real home school programs.

Our children work at their own pace, and can be at multiple levels in different subjects; it depends on them, their likes and dislikes.

Home schooling means that the parents take full responsibility in directing the education of their children; with their input; choose the curriculum, the time, and the method.

All these, as well as the other educational choices/options available to parents and students need to be researched, and carefully considered by your parents before making a decision.

To be honest with you you may bring up the topic to your parents, but ultimately they will have to make the final decision, and make it work for your family.

Home schooling is a big life style change, and not all parents are open to this.

There will be plenty of people to try to tell you that home schooling will limit you in the future, and your social life; actually the opposite is true.

Home schooling is growing at a rapid rate, because it works, and is a viable alternative to conventional schooling; it would not be growing so fast if it was not working.

The cost is minimal, start with the basics, use the library, inter-library loans, and the Internet.

If cost is an issue contact the Book Samaritan for next year; they provide curriculum materials for free.
