Question:

Which is cheaper laundry at home or laundromat?

There is a 24hr laundromat nearby that lets you use their dryers for free as long as you wash with them, which I think is a great deal. I believe one wash cycle is only $5. So my question is which would be cheaper doing my own laundry at home or using that laundromat? I'm thinking doing it at home will be more expensive because it will add to the electric and water bill.

  1. at home. it's expensive initially, but after u pay for it the cost if minimal, and eventually u'll be saving money!!

  2. 5 dollars is way too much..You will be well under that doing them at home..I can get 4 loads of clothes here washed, dried, folded and hung on hangers covered with plastic, and they furnish the washing powder and all other items such as bleach ,fabric softener, etc for 22.00...I simply drop them off and pick them up is all...

  3. I would think at home would be cheaper.  What about the gas usage now, gas is so high, depending on what you drive.

  4. Figure out what it would cost you to buy a washer and dryer and then divide it by $5.00. That will tell you how many loads of laundry you would have done at the laundromat. For example. It would cost $400.00 for a washer and dryer. At $5.00 a load after 80 loads at the laundromat you would have owned a new washer and dryer.

  5. The only one thing i can say is i believe that it can work out cheaper to wash at home. Also i have used a launderette when my machine broke down quite a few years ago, and after a few washes my clothes started to look a bit gray, i was glad when my machine was fixed, so i could cost you more in the long run.

  6. that seems a little expensive to me, me and my wife dont have hookups in our apartment but the Laundromat is only $1.25 to wash.  depending on how many loads you wash its probably cheaper at home

  7. Common sense says it would be cheaper at home...think of it this way:  the laundromat has to pay the same energy bills you do AND they have to make a profit, so naturally they would have to charge more than they energy bills would be.  Why not experiment:  for one month do all of your laundry at home and write down what your electric and water bills are.  Then for one month use the laundromat, making sure you write down all the money you pay to do laundry.  Compare the difference in your bills to what is paid to the laundromat then you'll know.
