  1. A Caesar cipher is a simple substitution, without key: the coded letters always have the same values. It can therefore easily be cracked with frequency tables. The Enigma cipher used several substitutions of groups of letters and used keys that changed daily. It was cracked because the Brits had a copy of the machine and several coded and decoded messages available.
