  1. longboard........its way more stable and you can ride smaller waves withthem until you get comfortable.

as far as being twenty goes.....you'll be fine, not to old at all...my uncle sis 34 and he stayed with me for a week and he could stand up on my dads 8'6 by the end of the week.

    hope this helps

  2. Most people learn best on long boards, although I have seen lots of surfers start on a short board and master it. In the long run, there are NO RULES on what type of board you haven to learn on. Long boards are ideal for learners. There are also good internediate length boards to learn on, funshapes, mini-mals and some hybrids. That is why instructors use long boards or fun boards (or even softtops).

I started surfing in 1966, and everybody rode longboards then, Most of us gradually moved on to short boards during the 'short board revolution', But like I said, there are no rules, and I have seen some energetic young grommets start out on a short board from day one. It is just not the ideal way to do it.

THE REAL BOTTOM LINE IS: Go to a Surf Shop, not a computer. The pros there can give you the right answers!!

  3. definetly the long boards. it is possible to learn on shortboards but they will take much longer to learn on and it takes much more effort. longboards are much easier to learn on but you might want to try a fun board

  4. Well i would definitely learn on a longboard they are much more stable in the water and not 20 is most defianately not to late so start surfing it's really fun

  5. longboards

  6. Longboards for sure, they offer stability and are very easy to catch waves on.

  7. longboards without a doubt. You dont want to be using a shortboard really until you are an intemediate or better. The extra length, width, weight and lack of a rocker make the longboard far more stable, easier to paddle with and easier to catch waves on. However they lack manouverability. When i learnt to surf i used and 8ft minimal and it was perfect because it had all of the above features and was fairly easy to manouvre. I recommend a Bic board to learn on, maybe even a softboard as they are both easier to ride than other boards. Hope this helps dude. Have fun on the waves!
