Which is faster, a 2001 maxima 5spd or 2006 maxima auto?

I like the style of the smaller 01, I've driven the 06 and it feels sluggish and heavy, is the 01 sportier? And do they get the same mpg? And what major features are standard on an 01? (bose, hid lights, etc...)

Features vary by model SE LS LE trim levels. Both cars are capable of 15.4 second 1/4 mile and 80+ miles an hour. The manual just give you something to do with your feet and arm. I prefeer shifting myself until I drive over to Dallas and sit in traffic. Buy the latest car with the most features and in the best condition possable. Financing a used car you may be better off just going in debt all the way and buy a $40,000 brand new 2009 Maxima thery are really nice. Lot better impression driving up in a current body style car. Then taking a sack lunch because of the 500 a month car payment

2001 5sp is faster cuz 2006 auto use a Transmission called CVT. Sluggish feeling you feel is from CVT transmission which is belt driven instead of using regular gears. CVT does not shift and doesn't give you that slam feeling

id say go for the 5th gen, (01) because, its sportier, and like they said doesnt have the sluggish feeling. id get the 02-03 maxima, because the 01 only has 222 hp at the crank where as the 02-03 models have an upgraded 3.5L 255 hp engine. If you go for the 01 look for the "Anniversary Edition", it comes with polished wheels, anniversary edition pedals, shift k**b, and door sills, as well as a body kit on it. with an added 5 hp. plus it just looks alot better than the normal 01's

2001 is lighter but they both have the same engines by class.

features on a 01 are optional: leather, sunroof, rear spoiler, Alloy 17" wheels, fog lights, 5 speed manual trans, white face lit guages in the dash.
