Which is faster: A BMW X5 4.4 or a Mercedes GL450?

Mercedes Benz GL450 0-60mph is 6.6s and BMW X5 4.4 V8 is 6.8s. Mercedes Benz has more output because of it's 4.6 V8 and BMW has more sporty type (suspension, body and whatsoever). Mercedes Benz is much more expansive than BMW. With that much expensive, you can have a stay at Burj Dubai and go have a shopping at Couch, Louis Voutton, Burberry or Dolce & Gabbana Store. Go for BMW. The Crash test is 5 star rating. Don't buy the 5 Series because of failed side crash test.

I don't know. This may be a pointless contribution, but I like the Mercedes GL450 better. Mercedes is just more grand than BMW. BMW's are for old people.

If you're interested in 0-60 times, the BMW hits 60 in 6.8 seconds, while the Mercedes will do it in 6.63. Pretty close if you ask me.

Of course, if the stereotypes hold true, the GL certainly won't feel as fast as the X5 or give as much feedback to the driver, but it will protect you from bad pavement, while the X5 will feel faster and allow you cut up the twisties, but you'll feel every bump and expansion joint in the road thanks to the sportier suspension tuning. Haven't driven the GL, but I thought the X5's suspension was a bit too rough (I drove a 2006 specimen some months ago).

It's the classic battle between German marques, with BMW leaning towards sportiness, and Mercedes towards luxury.
