Which is faster for a desktop an internal or external wireless adapter?

If your computer is capable i would chose to go with a pci-e internal wireless card which can have the fastest transfer rates plus it gets rid of the mess of another usb device plugged into your computer.  Also for the most part any internal card will be more responsive and faster when it comes to wireless

Neither is faster than the other.  USB 2.0's maximum bandwidth is 480mbps, while the PCI bus is 250mbps.  Wireless networks at the moment can't transmit more than 54mbps of data, so the cheaper solution will be the recommended.
