  1. South America.  Brazil juts way out there.  It is much further east than any U.S. state or Canadian province.

  2. technically Alaska is both the furthest west and furthest east because it crosses the 0 degree mark with one of its islands

But if you find an atlas you can use the Lat. and Long. degree marks to find what you are looking for

ahem - I have to disagree with the gentleman below. Alaska is both furthest east and furthest west. Facts are facts, and well dems the facts

  3. The coast of North America is significantly farther east than the coast of South America. 22+° farther east, in fact.

North America's easternmost point: Nordost Rundingen, Greenland (12°08'W)

South America's easternmost point: Ponta do Seixas, Brazil (34°47′W)

And, yes, technically, Alaska is even farther east. However, the Prime Meridian and International Date Line (which separate Eastern and Western Hemispheres) are arbitrary lines, unlike the the equator (which separates Nothern and Souther Hemispheres). So, to say "Alaska is the farthest east" is somewhat misleading. Furthermore, the asker was asking which "coast" was farthest east - the only parts of Alaska that are "farthest east" are a handful of islands, not the coast.
