  1. Both are correct.  This aspect of grammar is called the conditional sentences.  These sentences are called 2nd conditionals to show an unreality.  

    If only it was more prevalent means that it is not more prevalent but if it were than things would be different but they are not so it isn't.

    'It is' is proper subject-verb agreement but English speakers use 'It were' to show unreality and an impossible state.  Usually in spoken English people prefer to use 'it were' when using a conditional sentence.

  3. No good either way. It's prevalent or it's not... it's not going to be "more prevalent". That's like being more unique - it doesn't make sense. The verb should be "is" - singular - because "it" is singular, as it "It is prevalent".

    1= was

    more than one = were

  5. Eliza's right. Also, it would be "were."

    Maybe say: if only it were prevalent. (Take out the "more.")
