  1. Just downright cost wise concrete, then it's all about the look your trying to project. So therefore common sense not cost should prevail.Without Knowing some of your basic measurements it's difficult to say what's the most cost efficient method.

Lets say concrete, typically a retaining wall would be placed on a offset footer which could be 3' to 6' wide depending on the higth of the wall. Then factor in the footer should be below frost line, meaning more wall higth. You can get creative and use form liners in the wall giving a rock/brick exposed side, then acid stain for a rustic look.

You have an option of retaining wall block. If it's a higher wall then make sure you use geogrid for strength.

Other than that your options are limited to a nice looking wall, free stacking rock comes to mind.Again tying back a concern.

    That's it,built to many.

    Good Luck

  2. The most common civil engineering use is to stabilize shore against erosion. Other uses include retaining walls, temporary floodwalls, to filter silt from runoff, and for small or temporary dams. They may be used to direct the force of a flow of flood water around a vulnerable structure. Gabions are also used as fish barriers on small streams.

  3. concrete
