Lets say a 8.1 earthquake hit some pacific island and a 8.1 earthquake hit in the ocean same scale, same distance down which would be worst in terms of damage if both places are uninhabbited.

though a tsunaim can wash away your things but you cn still have a chance at living however when under ground there is no escape
