  1. the difference between a college and university is that a college does not offer graduate degrees but a university does...so you can't really say one is more difficult than the other..i know of colleges far easier than universities and some that are much harder

  2. In the US, college and university are words without much distinction from each other.

As another answerer pointed out, if by "college" you mean "community college", those are, in general, less challenging than a 4-year college.    Community colleges tend to be aimed at students who aren't quite ready for college.   A lot more remedial courses are available, for example.   I'm not knocking community colleges.   There is a need for what they do.

I find that a good way to get a feel for the level of difficulty at a college or university is to pop into their campus book store and look over the text books used by the classes.   There are also web sites where you can look for information like how many of the incoming students stick around all the way to a degree, vs. how many of them leave before completing the program.

Schools that are selective about who they admit are doing so in part because they have more applicants than they can accept, but those school's courses also tend to be more difficult - to keep things challenging even for the cream of the applicants who passed that selective admissions process.

  3. the words university and college are often just that: words. sometimes college refers to a specific school of study within a university and sometimes it refers to a regular 4 year school. many schools call themselves 'universities' because they think people may confuse them with a 2 year associates-granting school when theyre a 4 year school. one is not more difficult than the other; they dont even neccessarily indicate different things. for instance, purdue university, calumet is a community college but its not called a 'college'. its a part of purdue university, and by the way much of their coursework is as difficult as purdue's regular, 4 year school. so if youre talking about university versus COMMUNITY college, that would make sense to say theyre different in esteem, but when just talking about the words: college vs university, it doesnt. if youre looking to get the best job possible and if you are thinking about getting a masters at any point, shoot for the most prestigious school you think you can get into- if a hospital is looking for an RN and they come to two applicants, one who attended michigan state and the other who attended a community college, they will usually choose the state school attendee. so the people above are mistaken, unless what theyre referring to specifically are COMMUNITY colleges. hope this helps

  4. University is the higher level.

  5. university of course because it's more selective
