Which is more economial to run...?

A timeclock (on-off switch) with a 5v eco-bulb -on at dusk off at dawn, or...a 5v eco-bulb left on continously. (For security)

  1. Given that energy saver bulbs run on about 1/5th of the power that ordinary bulbs use, I would leave it on overnight.

    On a security angle, burglars are less inclined to break into your house if there is a light to be seen, not that this is a surefire deterrent.

    What would be the point in buying a timer if you are going to have the light on overnight anyway? The only merit in that would be if you were going away for, say, 2 weeks for vacation, then by all means, use a timer. There wouldn't be much point in burning electricity during daylight hours.


  2. If the timeclock is clockwork, use it. If it is electric, it really wont make much difference. Eco bulbs are very economical & the difference in cost would only be pennies.
