does it cost more to leave the central air on at say 75 all day and then cool it to 70 at night. or to open the windows all day and let the house get to 80 something and then turn the air on cool it down to 70?

my mom and husband thinks it is more economical to open the windows everyday, while i think it is more economical to keep the cool air inside, and not have to keep recooling the air.

  1. Hi

Here's where common sense kicks in! And now, if it's hot outside why on earth would you let your house heat up and all the things in the house, and have to re cool it at night?  The sofa alone holds enough heat that it takes a good hour just to cool it down when the A/C is turned back on. Do they not realize that the A/C has to run for hours just to cool every thing back down to a comfortable temp?

    I agree with you!

  2. Why don't you buy a fan or two,and leave windows open.It is far less costly than running an Air Conditioner. But if not,why not just have the air conditioning on a lower setting.

  3. It cost less to leave it running then to just turn it on. Why because your heating your house which cost more. I'd leave it running instead of just turning it on when it gets hot.  I would leave it run myself on mine, but right now mine doesn't work. Meaning it doesn't shut off on it's own and then it gets too cold. So I only turn it on when it gets hot.  It would be nice to have the op to leave it on. So that's why I say leave it on if you can and then maybe just every once awhile turn it off to open the windows.
