If you have lets say 1 ounce of water at 100 deg F, which would be more energy efficient. To put it in your freezer part, or to put it in your fridge (Of the same unit)...To get it down to 60 deg F?

  1. Freezer

  2. the freezer i guess , because both are working  ,i mean consuming energy @ the same time , but for the freezer it'll just talke less time to reach the 60 than the fridge.....

i feel this is argumental issue......!!!!!

  3. The refrigerator.

The higher the temperature setpoint of any refrigeration device, the more efficient it will be.  It takes more energy to keep a box cooled to below freezing (like your freezer) than it does to keep a box cooled to above freezing (like your refrigerator).   So unless your freezer is brand new and super-high efficiency, and your refrigerator is very very old and super-low efficiency, your refrigerator is more efficient than your freezer.

But if both your refrigerator AND your freezer are currently running, then the ADDED load on either one from one ounce of water is very very small.  So small that you would be unlikely to see any actual measured difference between the energy use of either appliance.

  4. Well, in principle they both have to remove the same ammount of energy in order to cool the water down to 60ºF. The thing is that it will take less time for the Freezer to cool it than for the refrigerator because of the temperature the Freezer already has. Remember that the bigger the difference, the bigger the heat flow.

I would say the energy efficience will deppend on the evaporator and not that much on the thing you want to cool. If the refrigerator works with the same evaporator, which is most likely, the freezer will be more efficient, because it will take less to lower the water temperature. Supposing it is a compression refrigeration system and that the compressor is working all the time, then you will need less energy to cool the water in the freezer than in the evaporator, due to the time it takes.

    Hope this helps.
