Which is more enviromentaly friendly a plastic mechanical pencil or a regular wood pencil?

Likely the mechanical. But if I am doing drafting work I may really want a 4H sharpened to a fine point with fine sandpaper that is difficult to get with mechanical pencils.

Perhaps what I need is an electric sandpaper sharpener for the mechanical?

Mechanical, because why the h**l would you want to chop up a tree, then shred it, then put it in a landfill every time you need more graphite?

I think it might depend on how often you change mechanical pencils.  If you keep one for a long time then it's probably better, but if you change them a lot then that's not really enviormentally friendly.

Environmental friendly per se refers to the realization of and guarding against global issues like:

1)land degradation 2)deforestation 3)pollution and 4)erosion among many.

plastic mechanical pencils are friendly because recycling of plastics is a way of controlling land pollution as opposed to wood pencils which encourage deforestation.

I think that if the mechanical pencil is refillable, it could be better, especially if it is made of some kind of recycled material.

Perhaps even better than both of them would be a pencil made of recycled paper.  The shavings would be biodegradeable, and would make good use of recycled paper.  My sister had one in the car today, and it was just like a conventional pencil in every other way.

If you don't lose it all the time, mechanical, although the idea of a pencil covered in recycled fibers instead of wood seems so much better!

deffanately michanical, May be a little bit more expensiver, but hey! it helps saves trees! -]] Thats why i ALWAY'S get michanical penciles cause we need to save some trees -]] lol
