Let us throw the debate in a bigger aspect- never mis interrupt by referring any kind of comparison between those two captain- Kapil & Dhoni respectively.

  1. 83 WORLD CUP WIN IS GREAT! BUT  INDIA WON T20 WORLD CUP AFTER  ALMOST 25 YEARS GAP!Inspiration for coming generation will be next World cup win !! T20 & 2011 as well!!

  2. See, if you say the new "generation", they have not witnessed the 1983 world cup. Ofcourse we see the footage & all the emotion of that moment from various sources like youtube or they show on TV sometimes. But about the recent T20 world cup, a feeling of thrill could be witnessed as the viewers, this "generation", were watching it live. & even me for that matter. I could feel my heart beat till the last ball & thats the difference. Though '83 WC victory was greater than that no doubt but you said "inspirational" to the young generation, then it would be the T20 WC won by the youngsters.

  3. I wasn't born to see the 83 victory, unfortunately. So I will go with T20 victory. I experienced the happiness and glory.

  4. T20

  5. The 1983 World cup was very special to me not because India won but for the fact I did not go to watch the match, thinking it was a one horse race. To make things worse, I had a £20 bet at odds of 100/30 that Sunil Gavaskar would be the highest Indian scorer! The night before the final, I met the Indian players at the bar of the hotel, behind Lords, with a journalist friend of mine. He knew the players very intimately. We were at the main bar, talking to Jimmy and one or two players. A few seconds later, there was pin drop silence as we all watched the great king Viv walking up to the bar to greet Jimmy. He affectionately tapped Jimmy on the shoulder and said, ' You are going to win tomorrow but please let me be the Man of the Match!' I had the ticket for Lords but gave it to a friend who still reminds me what an idiot I was and served me right for not trusting India! But I did get to shake hands with King Viv!

What made the victory famous was India going in as rank outsiders. T20 is still very much in its infancy stage while ODIs have been around quite a while. T20 is s**y, scary and mega fun, bit like the ancient days raucous entertainment, Everyone baying for blood! ODI by comparison is leisurely and yet very exciting. My votes goes to ODI but only by a very small margin.

  6. 83 world cup

  7. I think there is a common factor in both the world cups. No one expected that our team will win the world cup. in 83 world our team was not so good as compared to other teams like west indies australia and england. And in t20 world cup our team was totally new we just had the experience of playing a single match .So according to me both are best at their levels. We cant compare t20 and odi world cup.

  8. Of course, 83 world cup win is greatest of the two.  Because at that time West Indies was the undisputed king of cricket and nobody expected minos like India will be in the victory stand.

Our T20 victory is also a great thing happened to Indian cricket, but today we are one of the giants in cricket.  And so it is not an unexpected thing.

But I think T20 will inspire coming generation, as it happened recently.  If we wins the next world cup, of course it would become inspiration for the coming generation, making T20 victory as a thing of past.

  9. INDIA

  10. 83

  11. Ofcourse 83

  12. 83 world cup-national were playied so world cup

    t20 world cup-india cup

  13. 1983 World cup and 2007 T 20 can not be equated because of it's format and rules.Even technology has to play a greater roll for to create greater charm in the game. Now the present generation believe in quick bite so off course they will take T20 as a most inspirational.Although both the victory was inspirational one and contribution of those players can not be wiped off rather new generation must learn with their dedication.

  14. BOTH.  Every victory is an inspiration.  Both excel.

  15. The bigger aspect of the debate is that 83 brought back huge interest in the one day game and inspired the next generation of cricketers some of whom are in the centerstage today. 83 had the element of surprise as we were underdogs then.T20 we were in no way underdogs of cricket.

We have yet to see the inspirational effect of T20 as it is recent. The coming years will reveal that. We as a nation owe Kapil a lot but instead all that the cricket barons have shown him is disrespect and accused him of match fixing which was never proved and rightly so.

We hope Dhoni does not also have to endure this kind of ordeal as it has become an obsession to bring heroes down to their knees in this country. Nearly all captains between Kapil & Dhoni have gone through this. Inspirational yes but a price is to be paid finally.

  16. Of course 83

star studded Kapil's team is the inspiration~

  17. How many people know the names from the second group who scaled the Mount Everest? Everyone knows Hillary and Tenzing scaled it first. They inspired hundreds of others to follow them.

Similarly, 1983 victory would be always most inspirational. Kapil's devils came from under and beat the world champs. They showed true team spirit. There was no superhero. There was that team which did what was unimaginable, or happens only in films.

That victory also brought pride in Indians. Other teams started taking us seriously.

Dhoni's 20-20 victory is no less important but it is not at par with 1983 victory at all.
