Which is more of a handsome fern you think: Christmas fern or Maidenhair fern?

  1. Those two are so different.  I love the lacey texture of the Maidenhair.  But I also love the upright, evergreen fronds of the Christmas fern.

    I would do both!  The Maidenhair in a shady spot that gets more moisture and you don't mind that it dies away for the winter (comes right back in the spring).  The Christmas fern for a slightly drier spot in the shade.

    Although I find both beautiful, the Maidenhair seems to be a better fit in my garden. The foliage is a slightly lighter green than the Christmas fern, but they are a similar size.

  3. They're both evergreens.  I prefer Marginal Shield Fern, also evergreen, but that's just me!  See picture in link.

    These are easy to grow in partial to full shade,  tolerant of dry conditions and like well drained, acidic soil.

    I think they're prettier than the other two.  :)
