Which is more of a workout, pedal boating or kayaking (double)?

A friend and I are going to the beach to either kayak or pedal boat. We are looking for less of a workout and more of a cruising experience. Between the two, which one is less of a workout?

  1. I think the pedal boat is easier, but I bicycle regularly.

    The kayak will cover more water, quicker and easier.

    Guess it just depends what you are used to.


  2. The kayak is actually designed to glide over the water easily and will be much easier. Peddle boats are inefficient tubs which require lots of effort to move along.

  3. I would consider a pedal boat to be easier than a kayak.  The pedal boat uses your large leg muscles, which you probably use regularly.  The kayak uses arm, back, stomach (core), and shoulder muscles, which you probably don't use as much.  So if you just want to hang out, the pedal boat is probably easier.  If you want more of a challenge, then the kayak will be for you.  In either case, have fun!
