  1. I'm basing my opinion on observance.

Australian football requires much more stamina.  Whereas, except for a few positions, American football require more brute strength.

It's a shame that both sports carry the name football because it's like comparing apples to oranges.  But for the name, there probably wouldn't be any controversey and most people would enjoy them as seperate entities. I sure do.

  2. Australians rehearings

  3. Australian rules, how many sports do the midfielders run 11-20km over a couple of hours with little rest and yes copping those big trackles without padding to go with it thier average heart rate is 165 beats per minute for the entire 2 hours of the game.

I might add that the Rules are no shrinking violets they love to get in hit hard and it does lead to broken arms and legs and dislocated fingers/ shoulders and so on which just goes to show that every one is serious ind puttingthe bodies on the line.

  4. i thought Australian football was soccer

  5. AFL is considered the wimpier game in Australia.  Rugby League is much tougher and more physically demanding than AFL.

Gridiron is big guys in big armour

  6. Id say that Australian football is more demanding. There are less people on the bench, meaning less time to rest. AFL is a fast paced game where stamina is essential. Players don't have those big padding things that Americans wear, so that makes the blows they take harder than those of NFL players.

American football, however, needs a lot more strength due to the clashes and physicality of the game. NFL although is more of a stop start game.

But I am more of an AFL fan so it depends on your perspective and background knowledge of the two games.

    What's your opinion?

  7. that same question could apply to alot of things, for example u could compare afl players with marathon runners. competiters train differently to suit the sport. they are all very physically demanding in different ways. watever the sport it takes alot of commitment and training to preform at peak level

  8. I think due to the lack of protective clothing and the distances covered during a game of aussie rules i would be putting money on aussie rules to be the more demanding of the two.

Typically a aussie rules player runs approx 3 kilometers per game takes marks 2 meters from the ground, puts their body on the line with no protection from otherplayers kicks or "bumps"

I am not saying that nfl is ordinary in any sense but when it comes to injuries i will be picking aussie rules 99% of the time.

  9. My opinion is that they are both physically demanding in different ways.

AFL is played at a constant fast pace with big hits and tackles thrown in.

Gridiron is a stop-start game but you have 120+kg giants smashing you.

Overall I would say AFL is more demanding because you have a limited reserves bench and not as much downtime during the play.
