Which is more stylish - a brand new VW golf or a 5 year old Mercedes 4x4?

In 2 yrs time, you'll have a used Golf - a good, but very ordinary like 10 million other Golf owners.  But a Merc 4x4 , even a 7 yr old one, will always have a greater 'presence' and, IMHO, style... both on the road, and when parked up.

Or put it another way - think of your favourite stylish celebrity - do you visualise them in the Merc or the small family hatchback?

PS I bet your girlfriend would agree with me!

Get an old Golf gti in as good condition as you can afford from a collectors club or specialist magazine or some such. Much cooler than either of your options.

They are hardly comparable, it is like asking for advice between Lemonade and Champagne, both taste nice but are so different !

Neither, but the Golf has always had a bit of a classless appeal - everyone from toilet cleaners to royalty don't look out of place in them!

Mercedes are a status symbol throughout the world, but nobody except for drug dealers & rap singers buy the M class!

to me, i dont care about the brand name. A shiny new car would beat out a crappy used piece of metal with a mercedes logo on it anyday.
