Question:

Which is more suitable for Elderly British Tourists - Nazare or Cascais?

We're taking my grandparents to Portugal in September and dont know where they would enjoy! They obviously love to see local sites etc but they are very set in their ways and I'd hate to take them somewhere so far off the beaten track that they wont be able to a) eat from English menus and b) wont be able to meet other British tourists.

I've been looking at Cascais and Nazare, both are beautiful and dont seem to be overly "touristy" - we want the best of both worlds really - but can anyone tell me whether they can still enjoy them both. Eg, are they close to beaches? Do they have a good selection of restaurants and tourist hotspots aimed at the British holidaymakers? Is everything within walking distance or do you need a car to get around? In a nutshell basically, would an elderly British couple enjoy either one of these two places?

Thanks!

  1. They would love both. Cascais would be a better choice because of the language, also there more to see. Nazare is a beach city and Cascais is near the beach and a car is always usefully for older folks. Now a good selection of restaurants and tourist hot spots aimed at the British holidaymakers would be the Algarve region (south). there's Hundreds of British owned restaurants and resorts. They will love it.

    Have a great time.

  2. I've been to Cascais and it's a cool city, my only gripe about Portugal is the roads are not taken care of and to narrow.  The gov should allocate more money towards road improvements.

    Cascais.
