  1. Cold, salty water....Adding salt to water makes the density of the solution increase. Most liquids become more dense as temp. get colder, and less dense if the temp gets higher. If you are talking about gasses, then the temp will affect both volume and density. think of a balloon. If you put a balloon outside in the winter, it will become smaller. This is because the density of the air inside goes up and the volume goes down....

The formula to determine what happens with a gas is PV=nRT, whereby P=the atmospheric pressure, V=volume, n= the #of moles of a gas R=is the ideal gas constant and T=temp... hope that helps.

  2. May be warm salty water

  3. Nominally c, but don't forget: water is at its most dense at 4°C, so it depends on how cold.

  4. C

  5. c.

when things are cold, moement of molcules os slower, making it more dence, this is how water turns to ice.

for the salt/fresh, think, it is nearly impossible to sink in the great salt lake.

  6. (c)  The density of pure water is 1000 kg/m3. Ocean water is more dense because of the salt in it. Density of ocean water at the sea surface is about 1027 kg/m3. There are two main factors that make ocean water more or less dense than about 1027 kg/m3. The first is the temperature of the water and the other us the salinity of the water. Ocean water gets more dense as temperature goes down. So, the colder the water, the more dense it is. Increasing salinity also increases the density of sea water. Less dense water floats on top of more dense water. Given two layers of water with the same salinity, the warmer water will float on top of the colder water. However, temperature has a greater effect on the density of water than does salinity. Hence, a layer of water with higher salinity can actual float on top of water with lower salinity if the layer with higher salinity is quite a bit warmer than the lower salinity layer.

In the link below, you can input salinity and temperature and it will calculate the density for you.

  7. C. cold, salty water.

the salt helps add density, and warm water is less dense than cold water.
