as long as its the same on both ends it really dosent matter, but the standard is white is positive and black negative.

Technically, it doesn't matter.  Both wires are built the same way, probably copper wire.  What matters is that they are connected to corresponding connectors.  A single wire should be connected to positive on both ends.  If they are crossed, you are going to create a short.
